Why Behind-the-Scenes Is Good For Business

I’ll be the first to admit it, I like being in the know. That’s why I subject myself to twelve different group chats and keep my Twitter notifications on even now. I simply want to know the ins and outs of what's going on around me. And just as I want to know all the details about the lives of my friends and fave celebrities, the same is true for my local businesses and favorite brands.

I love knowing what the brewers are doing at the craft breweries two neighborhoods over. I love seeing how the party hat I ordered for New Year's Eve gets made. I love learning about my favorite florist's life through the lens of her Instagram stories. I love it all! These behind-the-scenes snippets provide a sense of camaraderie and a sense of participation for me, as a consumer, in the brand or business.

Giving consumers an insider’s look at the production of your business or brand makes them feel special, important, and included. It helps the consumer gain your trust and establishes a connection with your brand that wouldn’t be feasible if only surface-level content was shared. Putting behind-the-scenes content out into the world pulls back the magic curtain and shows who the wizards really are!

My friends, that’s a good thing! Remember, the Wizard was fooling all of Oz by hiding behind that curtain. It wasn't until Dorothy and Co exposed the Wizard that real trust was formed. You want your customers/followers to trust you so that they have confidence in your abilities. So go ahead, let them see behind the scenes!
