Social Media Trends for 2023

New year, new social media trends to keep up with. But fear not, your friends at MFBS have your back! We’ve rounded up 10 of the big trends we believe will shape the state of social media in 2023.

1. Social network as customer service

If you're keen on Twitter, you might already be familiar with social media being used as an extension of customer service. Social media users are not shy about expressing their praises and concerns on social media. Certain big brands even have separate accounts to manage their user feedback. We recommend that everyone feel comfortable interacting with other social media users on behalf of their brand.

2. Connecting social media and email marketing

Don’t be afraid to publish your content everywhere and use your different channels to cross-promote. If you want to grow your email marketing audience, talk about it on your socials and vice versa.

3. Larger ad budgets

Paying pays off. Even with smaller accounts, it pays off to boost content occasionally. If you have a specific goal or want to increase general reach, we can discuss budgets that would benefit you.

4. Confidence in the ROI of social media marketing is up

We appreciate all of our clients for making us feel valued day in and day out. The proof is in the pudding when it comes to just how beneficial having a social media manager is, and we are always excited to share that with you in our reports.

5. Tight-knit community

Quality over quantity. Follower count can be a vanity metric if your followers don’t genuinely care about your content. Reciprocal engagement with a small community of followers is much more favorable than thousands upon thousands of followers that don’t resonate with your content.

6. Small businesses will embrace nano-influencer and user-generated content

This is another great way to build your community. If you see a leader within your audience, it might be worth reaching out to them! In 2023, larger influencers are virtually unattainable for small businesses to work with; nano-influencers however are fantastic and attainable!

7. TikTok and other platforms

It’s not too late for the ‘Tok! However, to best benefit from TikTok, you need a strict strategy that is churning out content every single day. It’s tedious making tiny videos, so if you do not believe you currently have the resources to dedicate to that platform, it's okay to focus your attention on smaller social platforms such as LinkedIn and Pinterest.

8. Blogging is making a comeback

Trends are cyclical! Welcome back, bloggers, your time to shine is now! If you’d like to give your audience a little more reading material but don’t know where to start, the MFBS team is here to help. We still stick to our blogging roots too!

9. Entertainment first

Social media is meant for entertainment. Sales are secondary. Please don’t get caught up in an obsession with calls to action. Your primary focus of social media should be to tell the story of your brand through curated content.

10. Authenticity is everything

Your followers are your followers because they are invested in your story, so tell them the truth! They want to know the real you, so make sure to present yourself authentically…even while you’re keeping up with the trends!
