I can’t make this up.
I took Santi to the bookstore yesterday because he was soooo sad that Diego left him for school. There was no cheering up the little guy and unfortunately, little Jordi couldn’t keep up with him. I promised cuddly time and snacks at the bookstore’s cafe. Instead, it ended up being a free for all thanks to the Disney’s Planes promotion stand full of toys (argh!). While I kept going back and forth to put toys back, chasing Jordi down and trying to convince both to just sit and read…I found Santiago Stays displayed with all the other beautiful picture books. I called out, “Santiiiiii! Loooook!” He recognizes his name spelled out and was thrilled to sit and read this sweet story about a dog, Santiago, who won’t move, won’t budge, won’t be enticed to leave his “post”. The little boy offers him a walk, treats…but, no luck. He soon finds out the reason and loves him even more for Santiago’s absolute loyalty. If you have a dog and little kid at home (or a little guy named Santiago) this book, Santiago Stays by Angela Dominguez, is a must for your shelves.
We also took some time to buy something for Diego because we missed him so! Santi thought he might enjoy anything with Angry Birds and he is probably right. If you remember my post regarding reluctant readers, I mention if it takes Angry Birds to help your child read or in this case, with physics or science, then let it be! I’m loving the collaboration between Angry Birds and National Geographic!
AND, I’ve been eyeing this book since I featured Stuck! by Oliver Jeffers (he illustrates this one) and Diego has been asking for it. He might be a big bad first grader, but picture books never get old (errr, young). Drew Daywalt is on point with how children see colors and crayons. I was seriously laughing out loud at each crayon’s written letters to their owner for either being neglectful or too “abusive”. So funny!
Love our new purchases! I managed to cheer Santi up a bit and Diego and Jordi reap the benefits of this positive experience. I know books always make me happy.
