I was recently asked by my friend and personal trainer, Jackie, a question that actually stumped me. She wanted to know three reasons that motivated me to workout (twice a week with her and a minimum two more days on my own). I got the bug while running long distance in high school and although I just started running again (6yr+ hiatus!), I always enjoyed some form of exercise.
Now, more than ever, I feel it is super important. As one turns the corner at 35, it isn’t as easy. Yes, I am motivated to be healthy and fit for my little guys and husband and I’m not afraid to admit that big fact. Nevertheless, I know how awesome I feel after a workout and how it triggers this crazy thing to eat better, and to have more energy to keep up with the very busy life we all live. Because of lucky genes, I have always been lean but, strong muscle development is addicting and reason number five.
I was thrown off by Jackie’s question but have now come up with many reasons behind my motivation. As the holidays approach, we feel the weather getting colder, days growing darker, and the comfort food so tempting. We definitely enter a harder time to stay focused on our fitness goals. Seventy-five percent of the time, I start a workout with a very bad attitude. Most days it is right after I put the boys to bed and I’m exhausted. I just dive right in because I know it will be worth it. I love the quote I see all over social media: ” ‘Wow, I regret that workout.’-said no one ever!” jaja! So true!
