Hi! As you may have already noticed, I’m finally adding the missing piece to this site. I really couldn’t call MFBS a Latina lifestyle blog without talking about everything except for fashion! Luckily, mikifoto by mallika malhotra is amazing and she is helping me feel a little bit more comfortable with something I had not planned for My Friend Betty Says.

See, the thing is, I’m very self-conscious when putting these out here. What I feel is important to talk about is the feeling I think a lot of mothers experience…the change of our bodies when we live through motherhood. Although we are designed ย to create beautiful little things (that then take more of us by not letting us sleep!), it doesn’t mean we can’t at least feel like we did before. My intention for the site will always remain the same; helping you find the positives. We can do it like this too.

Perhaps, for me, I have become more confident and accepting because I have had my three amazing little boys. Remember when I discovered heels again? ย Or because of my decision to really take care of myself a little bit better, or having found a new passion in my life (this blog, don’t get any ideas, ha!) or maybe turning 35! Why are all the young bloggers having all the fun? I’m joining my confident mami friends in the journey of embracing myself tal y como soy.

One of the reasons I was excited to go back to work after such a long maternity leave is so that I have an excuse to get dressed up ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m sure down the line it’ll be a drag for me to wake up so early just to get dressed or fix my hair, but after months of resting and healing, it was a nice change of pace!

That is also happening around here, Nina! I’m preparing for a couple of conferences and I am sooo excited with the planning of several outfits. NOT just the usual one for date night! ๐Ÿ™‚

I dressed up the other day for a wedding. I received a compliment from my Guero. See, he’s a very casual dress person and somehow I’ve become one too. But I like to dress up here and there. But after the Marc Anthony concert, I realized I need to spice up my “casual” wardrobe on a budget STAT. I have so much clothes and literally felt like I had nothing to wear! You look great by the way!

There’s your spark Raquel! Your hubby made a smart comment and you noticed. Doesn’t it create such a positive reaction from you? You felt great and you were probably extra happy that night. Sometimes, I try to not change my outfit-of-the-day until hubby gets home (late) just so he can see me in something other than workout clothes or PJs! I loved that while living in Japan, no matter what people’s profession were, if they had to wear a uniform at work, they didn’t wear it out! They would change at work! So they would feel more like themselves than what they did for a living. Thanks for commenting!!! xoxo

Just because we are mommies we shouldn’t forget to take care of ourselves. We also have to look good and presentable. It will make you feel good and proud of yourself. I don’t want to be one of those moms that subjects herself to the everyday yoga/tshirt pants! You look great!! xoxo

While in Grad school and very pregnant, one of my classmates said, “Remember, just because you’re pregnant and having a baby doesn’t mean you have to let yourself go..” She was absolutely right. While no longer a tomboy ;), I try to keep her quote in mind both inside/outside my home. It doesn’t mean I have to put on my heels everyday, but I’ve learned to dress “things” up a little bit. I too am beginning to feel more and more confident. To me confidence is something I have learned with age.

Keep rocking it hot/bella mami ๐Ÿ™‚ xox

Confidence. On point! Recently, while having a conversation with a woman who is proudly 60+, she said that when you reach a certain age, you just stop caring about what people think of you. Some women achieve that at 18, some at 35 and others at 50 (I hear 40 is the magic number). I’m doing things for me now, putting a lot out there (obviously) and if I want to wear yoga pants tomorrow that’s fine too. It is about how YOU feel, what works for you…but have that confidence to back it up, right? AND to clarify on the previous conversation with Yvette (up above), I strongly believe that we both are saying that yoga pants/tshirt should not be an excuse because we all need those days. It’s staying stuck in a rut that changes how we view ourselves. Know what I’m saying? This got too long! LOL
      Thanks Maritza!! xoxo

I try to wear heels, mostly wedges, any chance I get. Being in a house with 3 boys, I HAVE to feel pretty. Even if no one really notices. I hope you post more on mami fashion tips.
