What do you do to the earring that gets left behind when its partner is lost forever? If you are like me, I let it sit in my jewelry box because I just don’t have the heart to let it go. I love my accessories, and it’s just so hard to throw something so beautiful away.
I had the pleasure of meeting Denisse Montalvan at Blogalicious last fall and knew I had to share this with you; she has found a genius solution for your lonely earring or unwanted jewelry. In 2008, while on a trip to Nicaragua, Denisse visited an orphanage and while heartbroken and confused to why so many children were abandoned, she knew she had to help. As a college student, she didn’t have the financial means to just give money, but she had a talent of making jewelry. With the help of friends and donors, Denisse started with enough materials to make bracelets and sell them-The Orphaned Earring was born. Today, Denisse and her small team, have raised money for four orphanages in Nicaragua, Colombia, Guatemala, and Mexico. The nonprofit is dedicated to bringing arts and crafts, school supplies and year-round festivities to these four locations to help the beautiful children.
I know you would love to help. I do! Here’s something we can all do:
1) Mail your orphaned earring or unwanted jewelry to The Orphaned Earring.
They will recycle the materials, bead it into new jewelry, and sell it to raise funds to help children in Latin America.
2) You can donate $$$$! Please click here for more.
Stay in the loop with The Orphaned Earring! Like them on Facebook to receive updates, please! You’ll be inspired!
