The Best Gift

It’s my birthday this weekend and look what arrived in the mail this week! Yes, the author of Jordi’s Star, Alma Flor Ada sent us books! Autographed books!! Bilingual books!!! Just like she said she would! I know they are for the boys but because they are for the boys…it made me so happy.

We received two English chapter books, My Name is Maria Isabel and Love, Amalia. The latter had a message for me. A poignant message that has already made a huge impact on me. Diego is ready for these two books. I’ll let you know what he thinks!

The book for Jordi!! Honestly, all three boys will benefit from these books. Diego is already reading chapter books in English but is still working on silabas and Spanish sight words. This book is perfect. Because the books are paperback, we’ll be gentle with all of them but we will save this special one just for Jordi :-) .

Workbooks! As Diego is getting ready to enter Kindergarten, this summer we have worked a lot on his letters. He’s a little lazy with this task because it’s tedious, yet it is important. I love how we can reinforce his writing skills and Spanish skills at the same time.

I am very grateful. As an advocate for early childhood education, literature for children and bilingual education, I never get tired of sharing what I believe would be great for your children as well. Thank you to Alma Flor Ada for being so generous. I can’t wait to start using these books with Diego and then Santi and of course with Jordi.

Check out Del Sol Books for these and for more fantastic bilingual children’s books and Alma Flor Ada’s website to learn more about her and her extensive list of books she has written for children. Support authors and books…and give your kids the best gift of all.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Your friend,

Betty
