My recent discovery of the Caine’s Arcade video reminded me of the award-winning preschool book, Not a Box by Antoinette Portis. We don’t own this book but I see that she has also written Not a Stick and I’ll think I’ll order both for my boys soon!
Not a Box is about a bunny who imagines that his box is anything and everything! He pictures and creates objects from a spaceship to a racing car. It’s beautifully illustrated and it’s a simple, creative book. I read it to Diego at the bookstore and he loved it as my boys also love to play with boxes, paper towel rolls, and paper bags! This book is fun for kids but a great reminder for parents not to over-schedule or buy every toy the kids desire. We should let kids play with whatever is lying around ready to be recycled! You’ll see their imagination, just like Caine and the bunny, take off!
Here’s a picture of Santi painting on a paper bag that I taped to the kitchen floor so I could cook in peace!
Click on Not a Box for info to purchase! Would also love to hear about your child’s creative projects done with recycled materials!

Betty
