100th Post!

This will be Jordi in a few months (but a boy and I will be yelling to Jose, not Trey).

Hi there! This is my 100th post on My Friend Betty Says…! I consider this a personal achievement as I told myself six months ago that I was really going to sit down and do this. I have enjoyed the process and the practice. I have been reading a lot more and have been very mindful of the literature my children are reading as well. Overall, I am just so glad to make a little contribution to other parents, to other teachers and to bring a little smile and inspiration to everyone else.

My first full month (March 1-31) as an official blogger (hee hee) I had 348 visits. I’m sure this was a handful of friends in Illinois checking in to my persistent and private emails to read my latest post. Last month, I had 950 visits and I hope to break over a thousand this month! So exciting. I am also now on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and Twitter sharing my work and letting distant acquaintances and even strangers know what Betty has to say.  Although I still cringe once in a while when I press that “publish” button on my dashboard on WordPress, it is always rewarding.   But, “Eek! Will anyone read this? Will they like it??!” always crosses my mind. [Read more...]

It’s Almost Time!

39 weeks today! I’ll be going in on Thursday for my scheduled c-section!! I wanted to thank you all dear readers for following my blog, commenting and for your overall support these past four months. This time blogging has truly been a discovery for me…allowing me to mesh together all of my passions…writing, photography, decorating, party ideas, literature and MOTHERING. Everything combined has made a difference in my parenting and in my personal growth. I want to thank my friend Celeste for all the inspiration and “meetings” on blogging! When will we get a chance for another coffee?!?!?! My compadre Mike Lambert for gosh… everything! I once lost my whole blog on WordPress and he saved me…in minutes!!! Thank you Mike! And Jose, an amazing father, my biggest cheerleader and truly my best friend…I love you so much. Finally, my Chicago girls, I think of all of you every time I write. They know who they are! I feel like I just won an Oscar and this is my acceptance speech…hahaha!!! No, I just won another baby boy and a happier me.

Your friend,

Betty

P.s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have posts lined up or “scheduled” to publish here on My Friend Betty Says… Don’t think I was nursing on a hospital bed somewhere in New Jersey typing away. So please keep coming back to see what I’ve done, keep commenting and share please! Love you all! xoxo

Hello! Please, Why Don’t You Stay for a Bit?

I did it! I just went to my Facebook page and notified everyone that I am launching my new blog by updating my status. “What’s on your mind?” Well Facebook, I am hoping that at least half of my friends will click on my link and love my blog and keep coming back because they can’t get enough! I am also scared dear Facebook. Terrified! My stomach is in knots and I’ll drive myself crazy as I continue to refresh this page and check for new comments!! But it was time.
In the past five years, we will call it a.c. (after children), I have acquired a bit of knowledge on a lot of things. I’m not an expert on one thing, but I know a little about a lot of things. Friends who are teaching (from my b.c. life) still ask me for recommendations for their classrooms, old students now in college ask me for advice, people send me private emails on Facebook wanting to know “as a parent, what would you do”? It is all so flattering. Especially on days that I feel completely lost in New Jersey, without family, homesick, and desperate to get back to work outside our home. Your questions and conversations with me are truly inspiring. Helping others helps me become a better mom, a better wife, a better student and a better teacher. I hope you enjoy my views, my advice and remember, I don’t think I know everything…it’s just what your friend Betty says.
