Infograph: Effects of Stress

stessinfograph

Last night, I texted my good friend and physical trainer Jackie, “I’m going to the gym kicking and screaming. When will we all be better????” It was 7:30 pm and after a long day of having all three boys home because of illness, the last thing I wanted to do was to get on an elliptical for 30 minutes. Feeling off because I have been out of the gym for a week (my toe!), I was starting to feel the mental stress but I couldn’t make myself get out of the house.

Jackie texted back, “You are taking steps towards it. Stride on elliptical for mental clarification and de-stress.”

The words were accurate and encouraging (what I needed the most) and I did it! I was on the machine for 35 minutes and did a variety of ab work. I decided to not write last night and watch an episode of Girls, chatted with Jose and didn’t turn on my computer. But guess what? It’s 6:30 a.m now and I’m doing another thing I love, I know Diego will be home from school today and I’ll be ready for him, his brothers and my day because I gave myself the time I needed.

What are you doing lately to de-stress? Anything that is not on this infograph?

I hope you are all staying healthy and warm. To my Chicago readers, “You can do it! You’re from Chicago!! What’s a little snow?” ;-)

I’m Always Betty

Lancome_Hypnose_Star_Mascara_Daria_Werbowy_Betty_Boop_04

I’m a sucker for cute packaging! And if it’s a Betty, forget about it. These current campaigns by Lancome and MAC remind me of my younger days and my obsession with Betty Boop.  Rewind to even younger, younger days…I remember flying to Mexico between the ages of 6-12 (sometimes alone!) and reading Archie comic books on the plane. I’m definitely taking a trip to the MAC counter sometime this weekend to reminisce some more.

Forget about Archie and his player ways, are you a Betty or a Veronica? I look more like Veronica but I’ll always be more like Betty.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Supermom!

How many times have you heard someone say to you, “How do you do it all? What’s your secret?” and you respond humbly, “Oh, no! Most of the time I’m a crazy woman!”

How many times have you heard someone at the checkout line or at a restaurant say, “Wow! Your kids behaved so well” ? And you shrug it off and say in front of your kids (!), “They’re a handful, really.” Or, “It’s a fluke! Only today!”

My favorite: “You baked these? And you have kids? Wow! You’re like Supermom or something“. Whether the person is fuming with envy and gritting her teeth as she utters the words or someone is genuinely praising you for the amazing feat you just pulled off, more often than not you respond with, “It was nothing, really”.

You know what I have been thinking lately? [Read more...]

What Do You Think When You See This?

When I found this picture “liked” by a FB friend, I immediately thought, “Wow. I’m going to print this and tape it on to my fridge”. Taping it up for motivation. To remind myself that I should try to come first once in a while. I messaged Maria Kang to congratulate her and ask her if I could use her image here. I couldn’t wait for her reply (sorry Maria!) because I quickly found out that the picture was going viral and most likely she is weaving through hundreds of emails. You might even see her on a morning news show tomorrow. ha!

But there will be backlash. [Read more...]

For the Love of Zumba!

I love how my blog is becoming a platform to empower and inspire other women because of my strong, beautiful and smart guest bloggers (AKA BFFs). Here is Bertha Mora Sanchez, a mommy, a paralegal and now Zumba instructor. Enjoy!

Those who know me or are about to know me, know that I have two loves…my daughter and Zumba!!! Okay three loves…sorry honey!!! Okay maybe four…daughter, Zumba, husband and running! Not in that order.

Between my daughter and my full time job, I’m pretty busy. So busy in fact that I decided to run my second marathon this year! So, somewhere in my life, I’m a mom, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a paralegal, a fitness instructor AND training for a marathon. My husband thinks I’m crazy, but I am who I am, and he knew this when he decided to marry me.

No matter how we see it, we never have enough time to work out, right mommies? We try to squeeze in 30 minutes here and there. We try to do the videos at home or use that treadmill we have that is mostly used to hang clothes on. We take the kids out in the stroller for a walk OR take the bike out so your 4 year-old can ride it while you walk- only to have your daughter give you her bike because she’s tired and now you’re stuck carrying the bike back home! Wait, maybe this is just me. There’s just not enough time!! [Read more...]

To Quote the Famous…#2

“I have no time to be in a hurry.”
Henry David Thoreau

I came across these words as I was looking for the Albert Einstein quote for my back-to-school tips. It really made me stop to think. I feel the most stressed out when I am rushing. I’m always rushing. It’s hard not to when I am balancing three little lives apart from Jose’s and mine. I need to get things done a certain way, in a certain amount of time, by this time…it’s killing me. Literally. I wonder if that’s what Thoreau meant?

What’s your interpretation of the quote? By the way, have you read Walden? I know I had to in college but I can’t remember it anymore. Shame on me! It’s a classic!! I’ll add it to my list of books to read.

Your friend,

Betty

Different Shades of Friendship

Another week gone in an instant!  They just go so fast for me. We started Monday with a little pink eye on Santi and then on Tuesday Diego had two pink eyes. Jordi has been congested all week and I continue to be sleep deprived.  Another bad case of the Thursdays ensued once again…but it’s FRIDAY y’all! And I couldn’t be happier! We have great friends and family arriving next week Tuesday from Chicago and they are bringing tortillas, chicharrones, and guess what else????? Pequod’s Pizza!!!! Yippee!

The past seven weeks have been rough, no doubt. Jordi is our latest little blessing that has turned our house upside down. I hate to blame it on him! He sleeps all the time! My little sweet boy. And not a day goes by that I don’t appreciate my friends and family back home. This small group of BFFs are always my life savers. Despite it being postpartum week number seven, gifts still came in the mail for Jordi, I keep getting checking-up-on-you texts by friends and even flowers from Jose. Another BFF rescued me this week by simply answering the phone and demanding I call her back as soon as I could. The best gift this week was a good hearty laugh I had when I opened up a box that came for me in the mail. [Read more...]

Not Enough Hours in a Day

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you had a nice weekend. I didn’t get to sign off and wish you well last Friday! Let’s just say things got a little hectic around here.

I always feel very humble when friends say such kind things about me as a mother. But the truth is, there are times I feel like things are falling apart all around me. Last week was my first week alone with the three boys. I had just hit the five week postpartum date and started feeling better from my surgery. Jordi is still sleeping a nice stretch at night, my body is starting to feel “normal” again, and Diego started half day camp at his new school. Things were going smoothly. I was handling it…then I wasn’t. [Read more...]

Fabulous or Not?

jessicasimpsonbump
I couldn’t help myself. I already had one-too-many things in my Target shopping cart today and although I have seen images of Jessica Simpson and her baby bump, I couldn’t resist picking up the April edition of Elle. People have criticized Jessica throughout her pregnancy but all I could think was, “Damn, Girl!”. If she is feeling fabulous with her pregnancy weight then more power to her. I read the article while shoving a frozen pizza down my throat (but it was Trader Joe’s pizza!) and realized that she might be having a ten pound baby girl! Again, more power to her. Her fiance is an athlete and she is curvaceous so a ten pound baby sounds about right.

I don’t put on a lot of weight during my pregnancies, I have had small babies and yet you won’t catch me posing nude anywhere! I did belly pics when I was pregnant with Diego because I felt fabulous at 28 in my 34th week. I don’t feel fabulous anymore…so no pictures. So sweet readers, not for you to tell me otherwise, but here is a little list of why I don’t feel so hot during my third experience. [Read more...]
