For the Lovers of Languages

krong

We just bought Krong by Garry Parsons at our school’s book fair! Of course it’s a huge thumbs up from me. This adorable book introduces kids to different languages (knot in my throat as I read the Japanese to Diego). The pictures are bright and along with the narration, the characters have conversation bubbles over their heads-always a hit with Diego! The best part? Spanish is included as well!

4-Krong!-Spread

There’s a little mystery in the short plot and the gift given at the end of the story helps our little protagonist crack the “code”. Diego read the book before me but insisted I read it aloud to him. This one will be in and out of our bookshelf for a long time to come. Perfect for all ages.

Do you know of other picture books that introduce kids to different languages? Please share!

Three Easter Baskets

easter baskets

Remember last year? I was pregnant but decided to buy an extra basket for the baby. I knew I would want the boys to all have the same one this year! I spent a little extra at Target for these just to be able to re-use them and I’m glad I did! They are sturdy, easy to store and just the right size.

Anywho, the boys are getting toothbrushes again, snacks that we always keep around the house, a book, and a hollow chocolate bunny. I don’t go crazy with the candy (none for Jordi). I think a chocolate bunny is important and a few M&Ms are definitely okay! The new items this year: 2 games for Diego, puzzles for Santi, and a shape sorter for Jordi. I also included coloring books and bubbles! Oh and chupones for the little ones. Hey, they are not cheap and if they want them… jajaja!

The books:
Just last week, Diego expressed an interest in Three Tales of My Father’s Dragon. I hope he’s surprised!

For Santi: Eric Carle’s ABC

For Jordi: Baby Touch and Feel: Cuddly Animals

Are you almost done with your baskets? What are some other good ideas for filling?

Jordi’s Star-Our Treasure

almaflorada.com

Can you believe this book?? When I opened up a box addressed to my little Jordi a few weeks ago I was floored! I thought this book was MADE for Jordi by my friends Tiz and Mike (they have bought us personalized gifts in the past) but it wasn’t. This is a real book AND it is signed by the author!!

So Tiz tells me over the phone that she went looking online for a book with Jordi’s name on it (great idea for a new baby gift!). Jordi being a Spanish name and very popular in Spain, something had to turn up. [Read more...]

Easter Baskets!

I’m ready for Sunday! I finished the very simple Easter baskets I put together for Diego and Santi…from the Easter Bunny of course! This year I decided to spend a little more on the actual baskets. Every year I end up buying new ones because they don’t end up lasting very long. These baskets are from Target and they were $15 each (I picked up a third for baby #3 and already stored it away for next year)! I didn’t spend much on the actual contents of the basket though. I had to put a lot of thought into what to add to the baskets because let’s face it…we just had two birthday parties and Christmas in the last four months! [Read more...]
