Disclosure: The following post is compensated and in collaboration with Latina Bloggers Connect and JOHNSON’S Baby. All opinions and statements are my own.

Mother’s Day is this weekend and I just sent my first Mother’s Day best wishes to my friend Celeste! JOHNSON’S Baby has launched an e-card digital platform to help brighten the days of deserving moms across the country. You can create your own positive messages of encouragement, while also raising funds for the global children’s humanitarian organization, Save the Children. For every Care Card sent, shared or liked, JOHNSON’S Baby will donate $1.00 to Save the Children (up to $150,000). This donation is a part of their ongoing commitment to help ensure that every baby has a healthy and happy start.

What a great way to do raise money AND brighten up someone’s day! Yesterday though, I missed an opportunity to help a fellow mom get through a tough day. [Read more...]

A Great Weekend

2friends

How was your weekend? One of my BFFs visited from Chicago this weekend! We had a girls’ night dinner, shopped and even visited the nail salon! So perfect. When she was not showing me new workouts moves on the kitchen floor (while drinking wine) we talked a lot about the blog world and had some time to put these together for you…

The Country That Stopped Reading. Thank you to Latinas for Latino Literature for sharing.

She created Frida and Wonder Woman with food.

Here’s mine.

Why not register for the meditation challenge?

Even 50 Cent meditates

Whole Foods isn’t perfect but they are definitely leaders.

Our new favorite picture book, Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs: As Retold by Mo Willems has made the New York Times Best Sellers list.

Can you believe that planning a vacation makes you happier than the actual trip?

But San Miguel de Allende, Mexico would make you very happy.

Did you catch my National Geographic Kids Spanish App review on Mommy Maestra?

A song to get you going this Monday morning.

Have a great week!!

Weekend Reads and Thoughts

subwayreading

Hi everyone! Did you have a nice weekend? We are still up watching the Super Bowl. How fantastic was Beyonce??? Inspirational.

Did you pay attention to the commercials? Can’t pick a favorite. How about you?

I keep thinking of the Harbaugh parents. How incredible to have your two sons as head coaches and facing each other at the Super Bowl??? No matter what, they should celebrate, no?

I didn’t read much this weekend because I met with a great friend on Friday night, went shopping with my mom (still here and I’m loving it!), Jose and I had a school event on Saturday night and had our BFFs over to watch the first half of the game (we have 5 children all together which explains the early night).

But I did discover an amazing recipe! It looks simple and dee-lish!! I want to try it.

And I thought about how if we still lived in a big city, I could live here

…and I can whip up some recipes in that small kitchen from this site. It’s in Spanish too!

This weekend I also started working on my next piece for Mommy Maestra. If you didn’t catch the last one, please check it out!

The last thing I did today (before blogging) was write a very long email to a teacher friend of mine who was my mentor when I started my career 10+ years ago! My friend Lori is now retired and even though we have a little bit of an age difference, she is really a close friend of mine. She is not on Facebook so she always writes a personal note to me when she sends a Christmas card. I miss her dearly.

Do you have friends who are much older than you? What makes you such close friends?

Have a great week (I have a busy one! Wish me luck)!

P.S. This is my 200th post!!

Positive Series #5-Find the Love

A couple of weeks before Christmas, my dear friend Jackie pulled up on my driveway in her new Jeep. I knocked on the window pane and gave her a thumbs up. It was beautiful. I love Jeeps and I was happy for her. When she walked in, she explained how she wasn’t completely happy with her new purchase. She talked about how it didn’t have this and it didn’t have that. But then, I saw her face change in an instant. I witnessed her having a realization. She stopped complaining and said, “What am I doing? I am happy with my new car! I should just say ‘thank you’ and not complain about the petty things!”

I couldn’t agree more.

I loved that Jackie stopped in the middle of her conversation to check herself. She stopped to appreciate rather than undervalue and undermine this important purchase. We spoke extensively of her realization. This is why Jackie is my friend. I choose to surround myself with positive people. I choose to surround myself with people who are conscious of their actions.

That morning, I looked at Jackie and said, “You just gave me an idea for a blog post. I love how rather than coming to my house in a bad mood, complaining and presenting negative energy, you decided to flip that attitude”. I loved how our conversation continued for the next hour: uplifting each other. Nothing fake. Just real.

I’m not saying that no one can come to my house and complain! Ha! Then I wouldn’t be a good friend. I vent A LOT to my friends and to my hubby and I joke that this is the reason I can sleep at night: because it is off my chest. I want the same for my friends. I want them to tell me what is going on…good and bad. But sometimes we have too many moments with family, friends and acquaintances who are full of negativity and who bring down everyone around them.

For this week’s Positive Series, I ask you to find the love! Surround yourself with happy, loving, and successful people. Stick to people who are willing to share secrets to their success and who are genuinely trying to help you. Avoid those who bully, tease, complain, gossip (all the time!) and are just simply unhappy. When they are ready to receive you and all of your happy-self and are willing to smile with you…then carry on.

The people with whom you associate on a daily basis impact your mood greatly. Ask yourself: do your friends uplift you? Share your passions? Are they encouraging and supportive of your dreams? Do they listen as much as they share? The Debbie Downers of the world affect those around them. Be strong! Don’t let anyone drag you down. Try to help them see a brighter world, after all, we don’t wan’t to give up on friends so harshly! But if they don’t follow suit…then carry on.

What are your thoughts on this today? Feeling like you have to move on, even if it takes giving up friends? Remember, it is okay to leave your comfort zone once in a while, not to settle and to do some reflection for a happier life.

Traditions in Connecticut

Yay! I did it! I worked around Photoshop because I love our friend’s beach house and I wanted to share these images with you! It’s so much fun to manipulate a picture that you ALREADY love. It’s easy to see how you can go crazy with your camera in such a gorgeous setting. I have a LONG way to go with photography but I’m just having fun now. See how beautiful Kinsey’s home is? I love, love nooks and especially window seats and she has so many! Here is another… [Read more...]

Different Shades of Friendship

Another week gone in an instant!  They just go so fast for me. We started Monday with a little pink eye on Santi and then on Tuesday Diego had two pink eyes. Jordi has been congested all week and I continue to be sleep deprived.  Another bad case of the Thursdays ensued once again…but it’s FRIDAY y’all! And I couldn’t be happier! We have great friends and family arriving next week Tuesday from Chicago and they are bringing tortillas, chicharrones, and guess what else????? Pequod’s Pizza!!!! Yippee!

The past seven weeks have been rough, no doubt. Jordi is our latest little blessing that has turned our house upside down. I hate to blame it on him! He sleeps all the time! My little sweet boy. And not a day goes by that I don’t appreciate my friends and family back home. This small group of BFFs are always my life savers. Despite it being postpartum week number seven, gifts still came in the mail for Jordi, I keep getting checking-up-on-you texts by friends and even flowers from Jose. Another BFF rescued me this week by simply answering the phone and demanding I call her back as soon as I could. The best gift this week was a good hearty laugh I had when I opened up a box that came for me in the mail. [Read more...]
