I hope you had a great weekend! It’s supposed to snow here today! Ugh! The longest winter ever. Diego is on his way back to school after TWO weeks of spring break! We had a great time but we are all ready for the regular routine.

We did a lot of catching up this week and will try to stay organized as we have a lot of visitors coming to visit soon! Our long time friend Pita stopped by with her beau on Wednesday while road tripping through the East Coast! So much fun.

Teacher Appreciation Week

Thank goodness for parent involvement at school! I have not taught a class in over five years so I have to be reminded when Teacher Appreciation Week is approaching. This year, Diego’s preschool moms collected a little cash from the parents to buy gift cards, breakfast and flowers for our amazing teachers. The kids were also to make homemade and personal cards on a piece of 8 1/2 by 11 piece of paper to fill a scrapbook for all of them and the directors. I brought out my scrapbook materials, Diego’s school pictures, glue, markers, stickers and let Diego dig in and create!

Never enough glue!

First time using stencils…loved it!

Stickers and signed with love!

Finished! I have to admit, I had to hold the stencils down for Diego and helped him frame his pictures! But he really enjoyed picking out materials and making each card a little different from the next. This project took us three 40 minute sessions and we talked a lot about how special teachers are to us, how hard they work and how much they love their students!

How are you celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week? I have a lot of teacher friends (a few are my BFFs!) and I want to wish them a great week!

Your friend,

Betty

Serving One Unhappy Customer

Oh boy. Just look at Diego’s little face as he is about to dig in to his sweet Morning O’s and that juicy slice of orange. This is Diego’s look every time he is about to eat anything! And he loves the cereal and fruit!! The poor kid has a pajama/pizza party at school today and he is bent out of shape because he doesn’t eat pizza and he doesn’t want to be the only one who takes a lunch.

Jose and I are really surprised that Diego is a super-picky eater. Diego has been to ten different countries and has managed to find things to eat during our travels without having to resort to a restaurant that is an American franchise! We wouldn’t call ourselves foodies but Jose and I know how to enjoy a good meal. We love to chow down! And we don’t consider ourselves picky at all. There is always a diverse amount of food in our house and when we eat out, we never eat fast food (except Chipotle). We indulge in sushi, Thai, Mexican, Chinese, Italian, and Indian food! We can’t understand why every time we have a meal with Diego (twice a day for me) everyone is unhappy, threats are made and the meal is pretty much ruined. [Read more...]

Showing Appreciation

We are finally done with celebrating Diego’s birthday! It seemed like I have had space theme on my mind for over two months! We received our custom made thank you cards from Tiny Prints and Diego and I took the time to show a little appreciation to everyone that made his day extra special.

Our kids are very blessed and really have a lot of toys, books, clothes…you name it! I have been thinking lately that we need to continue to send a message of gratitude. I decided to write out the thank you cards, but Diego read them, signed each one and decorated the envelopes on his own. It was a fun little activity that reminded him of the friends he doesn’t get to see often. We talked about what happened two weeks ago and it was all a littler reminder for him to take the time to appreciate all the things he has…lucky boy.

Book Review #2

I read a review somewhere (my baby brain will not allow me to remember the source) and Would It Kill You To Stop Doing That? by Henry Alford sounded like I would be learning…modern manners. Like, what should I do if someone is nasty on an email or on Facebook? You know, modern problems. Well this book wasn’t the typical “dos” and “don’ts” of proper etiquette. Alford’s meaty part of the book is advice to 23 different “commonly overlooked unpleasantries” that a group of people submitted to him. He then answered them in 14 pages. The book is 231 pages long. I wanted MORE. Like a list or something. So, it got me thinking and I do want to point out my personal pet peeves and make my own list because I consider myself the Queen of Manners (I kid! But I was once told that I apologize too much…well, I’m sorry for that). Here is my list of what I think are “unpleasantries”. [Read more...]
