No wine for me…but chocolate? Yes please!! Did you see this on the news yesterday? CHOCOLATE CAN HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT!! Exciting huh? But before we plop down to watch The Real Housewives of New Jersey with a bowl of chocolate pretzels, we have to pay attention to a few other things first.
It has been known that plain chocolate (the dark kind, not Kit Kats) are rich in antioxidants, which help “kill” bad things that ruin cell metabolism. We also knew that chocolate offers other benefits to our health such as making our hearts happy and our brains smarter. But now researchers are finding that people who eat dark chocolate on a regular basis seem to know that eating a little bit everyday and not indulging with a super size Twix bar, are able to keep weight off. These people are also choosing only chocolate and not a bunch of unhealthy snacks to eat at the same time. I come to the conclusion that chocolate eaters are super smart, are predisposed to healthy eating habits and are already exercising on a regular basis!!! Hmmm? So doesn’t it make sense that they are losing weight? I bet the headline yesterday made a lot of mommies like me run for the pantry and feel less guilty for inhaling the kid’s stash. No big news here…like everything people…moderation!! Make sure you pick 60 percent cacao or higher when choosing your next yummy piece!

I’ve been eating a lot of chocolate lately to make up for the lack of alcohol. I’m not going to lie: I miss drinking. I’m 28 weeks pregnant at the moment and I feel so silly trying to sneak sips from Jose’s wine glass that I just pour myself a small portion and watch my friend’s faces for judgement. I turn to everyone and state my disclaimer, “It’s my third baby”, which translates to “cut me some slack”! Before you worry, I’m being dramatic again. I wouldn’t be so irresponsible. I know the effects of alcohol and pregnancies, etc. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I caused harm to my baby. I’ll just drink non-alcoholic beer (or just wet my lips with the freshly-opened bottle of Shiraz) and pretend that my muscles are being relaxed on their own-magic! But, for you mommies who are NOT pregnant or trying to get pregnant, here are some fun wines on the market that make you feel oh-so-special (as if drinking the wine isn’t enough). [Read more...]
