Remember Elaine of Simply Chic Styling? She wrote an awesome post for MFBS and gave us 10 Working Mom Wardrobe Essentials. When I found out that I had two speaking engagements at the end of February and early March, I had to call her. I have been comfortably working from home and even though I am trying my best to show you smart and stylish outfits, I needed help for these two different presentations.
Elaine jumped right in. She helped me understand that because I will be in front of a room speaking, I needed to be comfortable, feel confident and of course, look my professional best. The problem for me was…time. I have become overwhelmingly busy, I usually don’t shop with something specific in mind. I get inspired by trends, window displays, and have my usual go-to favorite shops. Elaine recommended colors, suggested dresses instead of slacks, asked about my favorite stores and most importantly, knew my budget. I had to be super honest with Elaine because she had to hit the ground running. We had no time to lose! Within days, she was emailing me with photos of potential dresses and the first one I ordered, I kept! Talk about teamwork! I loved how efficient and professional Elaine was. Most importantly, I appreciated that she really listened to my needs.
We went with this gorgeous, bright poppy Diane von Furstenberg dress (my first one!) from Nordstrom. Elaine showed me something I would have never gone for on my own. This 3/4 sleeve dress is super comfortable and the front and back neckline cutout calls for accessorizing with only dangling earrings and bracelets.
Because the presentation is in NJ before spring arrives, I think I’ll keep the black tights and my favorite Stuart Weitzman pumps. The tights can go as soon as the weather warms up and I’ll be able to wear the dress again with pointy nude pumps. Thanks Elaine! I’m feeling really confident and ready.
