Ready to Workout?

Happy Monday everyone! How was your weekend? The Fourth of July fell on a Wednesday this year and some of us took a five day weekend! It has been so much fun but wow…talk about eating!!!!

After five days of chicharrones, carne asada, tortillas, and cerveza…it’s time to go back to the regular and healthy routine. I am also eight weeks postpartum and more than ready to start working out again. The question is: how do I start my regular workouts with three little boys at home this summer?

First thing first, I will be using my backyard and inviting my friend and trainer Jackie to work out with me. My only free time is lunch time/nap time when 2 out of the 3 munchkins are having a little nap. In an ideal world, I would do this five times a week. Honestly, this isn’t possible. Remember my rant on not having enough hours in a day? Well, there are not enough hours in a day. But I’m not going to be hard on myself. Reality is I still have to cook, clean, do laundry and spend quality time with my boys. I also love writing and reading so exercise will have to be fast and effective. I don’t mind my new weight either (I’m embracing the curves!) which is about ten pounds heavier than my good old pre-children days. So I’m going to focus on having exercise give me a clear mind, a strong body and being a good example for my boys. Plus, it will help me continue to feed everyone as fresh and clean as possible because truly, after a hard workout, who wants to feed a body a bad diet?

I’ll keep you posted and it will keep me honest!!

When do you squeeze your workout time? Do you feel that you have to give up things to hit the gym? Would love to hear about it!

Your friend,

Betty

UPDATE 12-12-12: I have been working out 5 times a week for the past 3-4 weeks!!! Yay!!! Jackie still comes over twice a week and the other 3- I have to figure out on my own.

I hear you! We need to make working out a priority or else we make up a million excuses as to why we “can’t workout today.” I din’t only need to get back into my routine but also to eating mindfully (my constant battle)!!!
Getting back to your question… the day before I look at what my day is going to look like and figure what time would be the best time to workout based on what I need to get done that day. Once I choose my workout time I stick to it & anything else that comes up needs to be figured in around my workout time!

Hot Vinyassa yoga!!!! Two times a week does wonders!!! As gross as it may sound, I love leaving there completely sweaty…it really makes me feel like I’ve maximized what little time I have to workout. Namaste 🙂

It’s so true there is never enough hours in a day to take care of all the things we want to do, but like everything else, I find the time to do my runs since I committed myself to train for a marathon. Workout time for me is mostly late in the evening after my kids go to sleep and sat mornings for my long runs. So I MUST put in the time for it. I cannot afford to make excuses to miss my workouts. There are times when I don’t want to do it so I just put on my workout clothes and that itself is a little motivation lol…I can honestly say that for me, I have gained a lot more than I had to give up. I’m running to live longer for my children and hopefully be a little inspiration for them. I lost my dad due to heart disease (in his mid thirties), so I never really knew him. Since starting my training I’ve become a vegetarian. I always loved eating and trying new things and thought it would be difficult, but cutting out meat was not hard for me at all (still eating eggs and dairy though). I’ve gained more energy to do more things, cooking more at home, and a healthier me. Now if only I can have my family join me in becoming vegetarian lol. Almost there, my son doesn’t eat meat except chicken nuggets (boo), my daughter loves her fruits and veggies and my husband doesn’t always want to eat meat everyday…wishing, wishing:)

    Hey B!

What finally got me motived to workout is my Brazilian Zumba instructor. She delivers an hour of nonstop energy and motivation throughout the class. Her variety in music and dance steps is what I like best. Belly dancing, samba, salsa, cumbia

Thanks for the replies ladies! Can’t wait to get started on Thursday! I hope Jackie doesn’t kill me! What I do need is someone to push me. Partnering up with someone, hiring a trainer or attending a class seems to help me a ton. Let’s see how it goes. Wish me luck! xoxo Your enthusiasm motivates me.
