Ever since I discovered LitWorld, I keep a good eye on all they do. This month, I am happy to help spread the word about their Stand Up for Girls movement. Last year, the United Nations declared October 11 as International Day of the Girl. Worldwide, communities are ready to stand up for the 66 million girls who are out of school.
This day also helps bring awareness of gender inequality. My heart becomes heavy when I hear a girl’s dream is lost because she is not valued enough to receive proper education.
What we can do:
On October 11th, please honor a girl (or woman) who you would like to Stand Up For and share her story. Anywhere is fine! Facebook, Twitter, Instagram…and use the #standup4girls and #dayofthegirl hashtags. You will be doing a great deed by telling as many people as you can. Increasing awareness is super important. I will pledge to continue to teach my boys about influential women in my life and theirs.
Your donation will be a contribution to help LitClubs. “The process of narrative framing we employ in our LitClubs and LitCamps not only cultivates children’s literacy skills – reading, writing, speaking, and listening – it gives them the lifelong skills they need to face the challenges of their everyday lives.”
I hope you will join me this Friday. We all need to stand up for these girls. Thank you!
