Hi! How was your weekend? Mine included a whole lot of LATISM! Latinos in Tech Innovation and Social Media are a fun, creative and an intelligent bunch! I was selected as a Top Latina Blogger and invited to attend a special retreat with other top blogueras to the United Nations. It all started just a couple of days before the official conference. What an honor. Completely grateful. This opportunity and experience was so enriching.
All of us were able to visit The Ford Foundation which “supports visionary leaders and organizations on the frontlines of social change worldwide” and then tour the United Nations as a group. I left motivated to continue to use this platform for social good, to use my blog as my voice for the promotion of education: my passion. I hope to also continue to help other mothers and Latina women in any way that I can, with no excuses and no apologies (thank you, Jeannette Kaplun).
I met bloggers who I have followed for a few years who do just that—speak and stand up for so many others. I met the two women who have taken a chance on me and gave me my first writing gigs outside of MFBS! It was an honor to meet Monica from Mommy Maestra and Ana from Spanglish Baby. Two women that inspire me because they work so hard to help other parents, educators and Latina women! When I say work hard…my goodness, I mean hard.
I met veteran bloggers and newbies and even discovered that a neighbor I had in NYC, the first Mexican woman to receive a Ph.D. in physics from Stanford University, won “Best Latina Tech Blogger”! I didn’t know Science Babe was there (or that she blogged!) until I saw her go up for her award! Small world! Felicidades!!
A few of the other amazing winners:
What an uplifting group of women! There are still a lot more I didn’t mention here! I have been truly fortunate for the experience and will feature more of what I have learned this past week with you in future posts.
We were also pampered by Suave (#MomentosBrillantes) and provoked to think further by Johnson & Johnson (#InspireCare)! Love their messages! Take a look at some of the pics on my Instagram account!
