Halloween Banana Treats

October 23, 2013

Boo! Halloween is only about a week away and we are fully on celebratory mode! Santi and I were able to prep a little Halloween snack station last week so we could surprise Diego when he got home from school. I decided we could make banana pops after a little Pinterest inspiration.

While shopping for Boo Bags this year at Target, I came across all the fun decorative candy, and cookies, and bowls, and straws…

So I decided to melt some chocolate chips, crumble Oreos, put out little gummy worms and let the boys have fun with decorating a banana on a stick! jajaja! So cute.

Santi did great! The only problem was that more was going in to his tummy than on the banana!

The candy googly eyes could be all you need to decorate anything chocolate dipped. We did the same thing over at my BFF’s in Brooklyn but we used strawberries, googly eye candy and sprinkles! Enjoy!

Only easy things for us! Do you do food projects with your kids? Please share!ย

I haven’t done projects with Joey, but when we make pancakes–he pulls the ingredients out of the fridge and likes to whisk it all up. For baking–he lines the cupcake liners…but kitchen projects do keep them busy!! Great idea, Betty!

Thanks Lai! I’ve always done super duper easy things with the boys because of my guilt of not being a master pastry chef ๐Ÿ˜‰ xoxo

I’m so incredibly OCD that it’s very difficult for me to allow them to help in the kitchen even though I know it’s a great opportunity for them to learn and feel more independent. :'(
I do have the plates with the division and I’ll make them finger food or tapas style meals. They can fill up each spot with a different item.
I’ll have to let down my gaurd and let them try this one! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’ll keep you posted ๐Ÿ˜€

      Leticia,
Go for the boxed stuff to get started. I do things that require one egg, milk, and a little oil. Oh and something that just requires a whisk and not a hand-held mixer (safer!). Muffins are usually the easiest, I think! Good luck!

These banana treats looks yummy, fun and easy to make with kids. Growing up, I never bothered learning my mom’s cooking and how much I regret this. Nayeli and Andres love to help out in the kitchen whenever I ask them. Teaching them where our food comes from is very important to me. I’ve had them harvest our fruit and vegetables from our garden. We’ve cleaned beans together, prepped muffins, cakes, cookies and pancakes. I’ve seen my little brother cook pancakes (with supervision of course) since he was about three years old and just recently I’ve had my son flip pancakes on the stove. We’re almost finished decorating an altar for el Dia de los muertos and I want to make some galletas de calaveras for them to decorate. I love their curiosity and watching their excitement as I’m teaching them something new.

Liz, It looks like you are already teaching them a lot. So many ways of learning about food it shouldn’t always have to be baking, you are so right. I wish I could watch you in action!!! Keep up the great work!
