Surprise! My Friend Betty Says…got a makeover!
When I started this blog 10 months ago (!), I never intended for the blog to be a showcase of my life. I wanted to put out here what works for me and my family and because I enjoy reading, believe in the benefits of bilingual education, was a teacher and now a mother of three, I thought about a few things. I thought I could be of good use to other parents that were looking to make little positive adjustments in their child-rearing. But now, I want to be a bit more honest with my writing and share with you how I have arrived to the many choices I make for me and my family. Behind the scenes, people are still asking me for advice. I appreciate that wholeheartedly but it makes me wonder, “Am I not giving people the whole story?” What makes me think I have the right answers for you? Honestly, I don’t. But I will figure it out with you.
What’s my experience? I have been through a huge journey with Jose over the last eight years. We moved to Asia and back and have lived in seven different places throughout this time. We have faced our challenges from getting acclimated to new locations like Tokyo and Singapore to raising our three boys in Jersey without our “village”. The last five years (almost six!) as a stay-at-home mom have been crazy, challenging at times but an absolute learning experience. I learned a BIG lesson in the process. For me and only me, I had to figure something out.
This little project has taken a life of its own and has developed into a blog full of tidbits from picture book ideas to having friends submit something positive about THEIR life…a contribution. As you know, I have my bad days and although I enjoy sharing that with you (and I will continue to share that with you) more of me wants to share the positive…because I believe in that energy. I don’t ever want my readers to think that I want to show a “perfect” life. I want to demonstrate that I see the glass half-full and I want you to see your glass half-full too. We’re going to find the positives and seek the benefits.
My parties are not the best decorated, my photographs are not the best images, and my writing might not make it into any literary magazine. I don’t have the time to Tweet, Facebook and Pinterest the fun out of this. My promotion is minimal (but did you see how I snuck that in there?). The time that I have I want to post on HERE. Heck, if my blog doesn’t ever surpass more than a few views a day, I’m okay with that. Because this is a labor of love. This is what makes me a better mom. This is what makes me a better wife and a better friend. I choose to stay home with my kids and most often than not, I am a screaming lunatic who knows to find balance with this. Jose told me, “If ten people read a post, three might like it but if one is impacted and inspired, you’ve done your job.” I think so too. Plus, I have taken care of me.
So I challenge you! Would you like to start seeing your glass half-full? What are some ways you can be a bit more positive in your daily life? Put your intention here and I’ll hold you accountable for that! 🙂 Next week I’ll be starting a new series of a once-a-week post on how we can get there. There’s a lot of negativity out there. I choose to create a tiny little space in this big internet world a little bit better. Join me!
Have a great weekend everyone!
