Another week gone in an instant! They just go so fast for me. We started Monday with a little pink eye on Santi and then on Tuesday Diego had two pink eyes. Jordi has been congested all week and I continue to be sleep deprived. Another bad case of the Thursdays ensued once again…but it’s FRIDAY y’all! And I couldn’t be happier! We have great friends and family arriving next week Tuesday from Chicago and they are bringing tortillas, chicharrones, and guess what else????? Pequod’s Pizza!!!! Yippee!
The past seven weeks have been rough, no doubt. Jordi is our latest little blessing that has turned our house upside down. I hate to blame it on him! He sleeps all the time! My little sweet boy. And not a day goes by that I don’t appreciate my friends and family back home. This small group of BFFs are always my life savers. Despite it being postpartum week number seven, gifts still came in the mail for Jordi, I keep getting checking-up-on-you texts by friends and even flowers from Jose. Another BFF rescued me this week by simply answering the phone and demanding I call her back as soon as I could. The best gift this week was a good hearty laugh I had when I opened up a box that came for me in the mail.
The back story first. This was a text I received from one of my oldest and best friends a few weeks ago:
BFF: Hello. Just had a conversation about a book called 50 Shades of Grey. Have you read it?
Me: LOL No. Have you?!?!?!? (my surprise because of all my BFFs, this BFF would NEVER read such books).
BFF: NO. I just heard about it today. (This was June 5, where does my BFF live??) They described it as mommy porn. Maybe you should wait a few weeks to read it. 😉
Me: Ha! Yes, and I’m a little bit of a snob and refuse to read the trilogy. Book snob that is. (I’m an English major and a teacher of literature damn it…blah, blah, blah). Maybe I should and then I can blog about it. I’m sure Jose would appreciate it all 🙂
22 days later:
BFF: Hey hon. I sent you (via US Postal) something. You might already have it. If you do we can share it. In fact we can share it anyway. It will arrive in the next week or so.
Me: Aww! Ok! Thanks 🙂 (She’s giving me a gift and wants to share?? okayyyyy…)
Yes, I am so happy the picture is going up twice!!
This little gesture, I know it cost BFF some money, but still, the fact that she just did a simple thing like remembering a text from 22 days prior, taking the time of HER busy working-mom life and ordering something for US just made my day! I can’t explain how in my little world with a lot of action (kid action!!) this gesture is so important to me and appreciated by me. This truly made me realize how blessed I am. I have the best BFFs anyone could ask for.
Meals prepared, phone calls made, texts sent, letters written…however you show your friendship to someone…it has an impact. Just like smiles, hellos, and nods of acknowledgement to strangers…it matters. Watching and FEELING the love from my friends helps me be a better mom, a better wife and totally a better friend. Thank you girls for always being there, here or far. And yes, I’ll share my trilogy with anyone of you when I am done and when BFF is done (she better put down the Economist and read this shit too). 🙂
Have your read Fifty Shades of Grey? Life changer? I swore I wouldn’t read it but now I can’t wait! Have great weekend everyone!
