We’re back from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico! If you travel with kids, you know it can go really well or really, really bad. You can never tell! The timing has to be absolutely perfect. Tummies need to be satisfied, potty-breaks given and little heads and hands completely engaged. You know the odds are against you! Nevertheless, this mami has to travel smart and chic but be very comfortable as well.
Traveling with three boys requires a lot of organization and a HUGE bag. I love my Burberry travel bag. I got it on sale, many years ago while on a trip to Kansas City. It fits everything!
Besides carrying the passports and diaper pouch, I carry little toys for the boys, hand wipes, my hat, a jewelry case, my makeup bag, snacks and reading material (ha! a girl can dream). We use a separate carry-on for an extra outfit for everyone (including mom and dad) in case of an emergency. The airline left a bag of ours in Houston and I knew we would get it back, so I didn’t worry because we had the most important things with us.
The boys carry a backpack with their Kindles, books and coloring materials. They all have to wear dark colors (someone always spills something!) and running sneakers. Diego and I ran about a mile (dear Houston, why is your airport so BIG?!?) after purchasing food for the family. We made our connecting flight just in time.
Staying organized is key! The baby NEEDS his pacifier and blanket and not the whole kitchen sink. Kids are flexible and adaptable, we have to trust that they will be okay without this and that. Jose and I learn from every single flight we take and even though it is hard work, the benefits of traveling as a family are totally worth the small mishaps and little stress. Stay tuned for pics from Mexico!!
