In 1943, during World War II, the USDA introduced nutritional guidelines promoting “Basic 7″ food groups to help maintain nutritional standards under wartime food rationing.-USDA

Isn’t this vintage poster the best?? “Eat any other foods you want”! Okay then!! Enjoy your Memorial Day Weekend!

Well Wishes

Monday’s post had me reminiscing of the good old days. How sweet was it that we used to take the time to write notes to friends at the end of the school year? Like, with pen and paper, I mean. According to my witness Jose, his niece who just graduated high school, did have an autograph book for people to sign! Hurray!

I love the images I found of vintage notes written in old autograph books:

Weekend of Graduations

staygold

Congratulations to all the 2013 graduates!! I love to see proud parents’ pictures all over social media! Education is invaluable and I applaud all students from preschool to graduate programs and beyond! Bravo!

Jose’s two nieces graduated this weekend as well. He took Diego to Kansas City for three days to celebrate the high school and college graduations! The poor sisters couldn’t watch each other cross the stage because their graduations were taking place at the exact time! Can you imagine? My brother-in-law and my sister-in-law had to split up and each watch one daughter!Thankfully, a lot of family went to KC for the weekend too. I imagine there was no shortage of cheers and applause for the girls.

Meanwhile, the little boys and I hung out in dreary New Jersey. I had to turn on the heat again! Ugh. This weather is crazy! I did have a lot of quite time to organize Jordi’s first birthday pictures! Visit tomorrow for those!

Enjoy the links I found for you!

While on the topic of first birthdays…too beautiful to smash?

An alternative to the princess theme portraits. Thank you Liz!!

Awesome blog.

Something I wish I had the guts to do. jajaja!

Whoa! I don’t know about this.

There’s a word for my problem?? I’ll have to ask my Japanese friends! Tee hee!

Food to improve children’s mood. I didn’t want to give the link another name. Read it please!

I’ll be doing #19 this summer and heck yes to #23!

P.s My good friend Laila reminded me that I signed “stay gold” in her 8th grade autograph book right before graduation! ja! I told you I LOVE that book! And a big thank you to Lisa for the inspiration behind this post ;-) BTW, do kids still use these?

Cozy Up…Again

i want to wear this everyday

Sigh. The weather cooled off again. Diego had soccer today and I was freezing while I watched him play! This outfit should be my everyday outfit until it warms up.

The white Tory Burch tote is begging for summer to arrive. Red Keds will brighten up these gloomy days (and they can stay for summer). I love the French Connection over sized top (with lace!) as a great transition piece and the boyfriend jeans are perfect for running around with my boys.

Is it still cold by you?

A Mother’s Day Weekend

meandboys

Did you have a nice weekend? It was all about the mother status this weekend and I was spoiled! I did a little shopping, took Santi to a lovely birthday party and had a yummy brunch with the men in my life. The only thing that didn’t go so smoothly was the cake smash photo session. Booooo! The birthday boy was fine; the older boys were not having a great time and it was a little chilly for outdoor pictures. Cross your fingers for me! I really hope there are some good pics of Jordi!!

Anywho…I found these great links for you!! Happy viewing!

Prepared foods to buy frozen. Thanks Maggie!

Top preferred employers for the young generation.

Gorgeous world heritage sites. Been to only 2!

Should we all disconnect for a little? Maybe?

I’ll take the chalet in Switzerland, please.

My boys would go nuts at this party.

Another list of 10 super foods.

You know I LOVE vintage photographs and here are some interesting ones.

You can’t trademark what you didn’t create. Yo no’mas digo. Gracias BEA!!!

Off We Go

katespadecover

If Kate Spade is going somewhere this season, she’s definitely going to Mexico!

I was shopping on Saturday and while scanning the colorful bags out for the summer season, I spotted papel picado on a tote! I wasn’t surprised that the always fun and always bright Kate Spade would have a line that I want to call, completely inspired my Mexico’s colors and flavors. I came home to research the rest of the Off We Go line and picked out these pieces that would accentuate any Latina’s already vivid wardrobe. Take a look:

What is the best advice your mom has given you?

momandme2

I just spent this past weekend with my family in Chicago. My mom and I spent ALL of Saturday together and it was so nice! I love my mom. She was also my first teacher and she has given me such great advice throughout the years. Some of it I have heard all of my life and some she just decided to share with me. Here is the list worth passing on: [Read more...]

Care Cards for Moms

johnsonsbaby

Disclosure: The following post is compensated and in collaboration with Latina Bloggers Connect and JOHNSON’S Baby. All opinions and statements are my own.

Mother’s Day is this weekend and I just sent my first Mother’s Day best wishes to my friend Celeste! JOHNSON’S Baby has launched an e-card digital platform to help brighten the days of deserving moms across the country. You can create your own positive messages of encouragement, while also raising funds for the global children’s humanitarian organization, Save the Children. For every Care Card sent, shared or liked, JOHNSON’S Baby will donate $1.00 to Save the Children (up to $150,000). This donation is a part of their ongoing commitment to help ensure that every baby has a healthy and happy start.

What a great way to do raise money AND brighten up someone’s day! Yesterday though, I missed an opportunity to help a fellow mom get through a tough day. [Read more...]

A Weekend in Chicago

chicagowoodskyline

How was your weekend? Jordi and I are back from 48 hours in Chicago! Wasn’t that a super-quick trip? Believe it or not, it was very relaxing! I caught up with my family and a few friends and had the best time. It was definitely a weekend of visiting very special women and girls in my life. The flights were smooth and the weather was great too. Can’t wait to go back this summer!

Here are this week’s links. Enjoy!

While in Chicago…we ate at this classic pizzeria. Then ate at this modern and eco-chic restaurant. All-around yum!

Already thinking about the long summer. Getting this for Diego. Thank you Bea!!!

Totally worth reading again before Friday’s premier. I. CAN’T. WAIT.

I think this is a great Mother’s Day gift.

Positive Series #10-Offer the Love

offerlove

Right before the time of the Boston bombings, I read someone’s status on Facebook that was asking why people weren’t courteous, polite, or even friendly anymore. This woman had so MANY comments as replies. Everyone was willing to pitch in more than what I think the woman was asking. People wrote about their state of unhappiness. People answered that the economy in this country was awful. People complained of working too much or not working at all. Some claimed that the media contributed to the sad mood as well. Unhappy relationships was another factor and it was all just too much and too hard to stay positive. I think it’s definitely safe to assume that the collective response was, it is hard to be happy when everything around us is in a bad place.

I did a little thinking back at the post I did for this positive series. Find the Love is where I encouraged you to surround yourself with people who uplift you and pretty much ditch those who fuel negative energy. After the story I heard this weekend, I’m having a little change of heart on this topic.
