Books for Babies and Toddlers

April 4, 2012

I hope you enjoyed my Easter Basket post yesterday! But because of my baby brain, I forgot to feature the book I added to Santi’s basket. So today I had a clever idea to share with you our favorite baby and toddler books! Before I forget again…I just bought Good Night, I Love You by Caroline Jayne Church because Santi loves her books! I firmly believe that my boys have loved these books because of the illustrated big faces! hahaha! They also love books by Karen Katz (more big faces!) so I am highlighting a few that we own and love.

We have had Donde Esta el Ombliguito? by Karen Katz since Diego was born! Diego now reads it to Santi and Santi loves to lift the flaps to discover a hidden surprise. Karen Katz’s books are perfect for little hands. They are sturdy, colorful and have many illustrated, daily objects and animals to point to as you “read” to your baby.

Counting Kisses is so cute! I read and kiss my babies at the same time.

Celebrate Daddy and Baby with Daddy and Me! In this book, also by Karen Katz, Daddy and Baby do a bit of construction together but the tools are hidden. Again, beautiful illustrations with big images and a lift-the-flap book! Your baby will love it! We have also had this book since Diego was a tiny one.

Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell is new in our home. Santi received it from our friends in London! Great introduction to animals, a board book and also a lift-the-flap book. I catch Diego reading this book often! It is also on it’s 25th anniversary-a classic!

I can not get through these books without developing a knot in my throat! I Love You Through and Through is by Bernadette Rossetti-Shustak and How Do I Love You? is by Marion Dane Bauer. They are both illustrated by Caroline Jayne Church! I’m telling you…the pictures are absolutely beautiful. And the words! As I just mentioned, I want to cry every time I read these to my boys.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is a great rhyming book, a fun introduction to the alphabet and another classic! You can’t help but sing-song your way through this book! Diego still loves it even though he can actually read. It will definitely be on your bookshelf for a many years to come along with any books you buy written or illustrated by Bill Martin Jr.

I couldn’t skip this cute and tiny lift-the-flap Open the Barn Door by Christopher Santoro! Every little baby and toddler that came to Santi’s first birthday party received this book. Children start to learn the sounds that animals make and see the baby animals with their mommies. It has a lot of pages for a baby book so the fun goes on and on.

As I was writing this I realized that although these books are great for babies and toddlers many of them are targeted to preschool aged children. It’s true that Diego at five still enjoys these but if you want to introduce your baby to reading at an early age, these books are fantastic

Do you have any in your shelves that you can recommend? By the way if you plan on buying one of these books, just scroll over one of the images above and it will take you straight to Amazon.com!

Enjoy!
Your Friend,
Betty

Yes, Daniela and I have enjoyed most of these books too! We also love Guess How Much I Love you, The Very Hungry Caterpiller and of course my favorite, Lllama Llama Red Pajama and all of Llama Llama books!!!Daniela reads to us The Very Hungry Caterpiller she knows it by heart! It’s adorable to see her “read” Another one of her favorite is Brown Bear Brown Bear what do you see. Yesterday she took a Hello Kitty book to school and Ms. Tina had her read it to her classmates. Based on the pictures, she was able to come up with an interesting story, according to Ms. Tina! I love it!!!

I’m always looking for new books – going to look for Donde esta el Ombliguito for Ethan. I Love you Through and Through is one of my favorites too. Ethan also loves those little Einstein ABC books you got him for x-mas. (He actually sits still for at least 15min when we look though them.)I’ll have to send you a picture I took of him with them from when he was smaller. Another one of my favorites that Diego might enjoy more is Love you Forever by Robert Munsch (this one gives me a knot in my throat). I read this when i was in grammer school and have loved it since then but no that i have kids its a lot more meaningful. If you haven’t read it you should def. put it on your list. 😉
