Another big night last night! Did you get a chance to watch the debate? How about picking up my last recommendation to help discuss the elections with your kiddies? Here’s another recommendation for fact lovers! Very different from a picture book of course but we loved the fun illustrations that made the book enticing for Diego. This is another pick we checked out from the library when we were doing our postcard reading project over the summer. I tried to check it out again but it was out! Ugh! haha! I’m glad kids are reading and I’m so happy they are reading books like I Grew Up to Be President by Laurie Calkhoven.

Every President from George Washington to Barack Obama gets two pages in this book. It is divided into parts for facts, life as a child, major historic events and funny tidbits.
I picked this page to highlight President John Tyler because I thought it was funny that Diego pointed out that he had so many children and needed two wives to help him! Haha! I obviously explained Mr. Tyler’s situation.

Then he noticed that President Buchanan had no children. Therefore, he didn’t need a wife.
BOOKS! They give you the opportunity to discuss so many RANDOM things like the election, past Presidents, family structure…!
I recommend reading about a few Presidents at a time. I loved how Diego is learning to skim through books like this. Not every page will be completely understood. His comprehension at this point is still a work-in-progress, nevertheless, encouraging to read about current topics and tying it in to our history is key.
Have a great Wednesday everyone!! Please comment below. Any thought, any idea is appreciated! I love hearing from you.

That’s hilarious how he noticed number of kids = number of wives lol! We moms sure do a lot though, don’t we? And this looks like an awesome book. When my little guy is a little older I’m sure he’d love reading about the presidents.
