A few weeks ago I hosted a baby shower for my dear friend Venus. She is expecting Baby Boy #2 in June and because she is fabulous and lives in New York City, I knew that she wanted to have a chic little tea party with her closest friends to celebrate in pure elegance and style.
Lady Mendl’s Tea Salon is located at the Inn at Irving Place in Gramercy Park. Lady Mendl’s offers a five-course afternoon tea with champagne! Everything from the finger sandwiches to the scones with clotted cream and jam were absolutely delicious! Their Marbury Room was perfect for our party of ten girls.
I notified them in advance that I would be bringing these cute little chocolate place cards from Old Fashioned Candies, shipped from Chicago, and the place of my very fist job at 15!
The staff at Lady Mendl’s was professional, polite and super helpful. The tables, candles and flowers were set and ready when I arrived. As soon as our guests walked in, our waitress offered them a glass of champagne or a champagne cocktail. I chose a refreshing bellini! Once we were all together, we sat and began our tea. Our appetizer was a delicious and creamy pumpkin tart. It was so tiny but so rich-absolutely perfect. For our tea selection, our waitress offered chamomile, raspberry, earl grey or black tea. I chose chamomile to calm my nerves. Hosting a shower is fun but stressful! Then the tea sandwiches were presented: they looked too cute to eat! But we dove right in and picked from smoked salmon with dill cream cheese on pumpernickel, cucumber with mint crème fraiche on brioche, classic egg salad on rye and smoked turkey and cranberry on seven grain. I wished not to have been so polite and should have eaten more. We had more than enough to feed another five! When the scones arrived, I was so giddy! I love scones and was so happy to see that they were still warm, the clotted cream was nice and cool and the fruit preserves were super sweet and fresh. And yet more continued to arrive. Our fourth course or dessert course was Lady Mendl’s signature cake with raspberry coulis and the final course…chocolate covered strawberries! Can you say a no-guilt, pregnant lady’s dream come true? Everything was absolutely delicious.
The favor gift bags I ordered from Pinhole Press, a new photo gift site I learned about through Terra Savvy’s blog. As you can see in the picture, the rocking horse theme from Pinhole Press inspired the chocolate place cards and cake!
Venus tried my custom made Space Ship cake from Splurge Bakery and loved it so I knew I had to stop at the Millburn, New Jersey bake shop and order a chocolate/chocolate cake to meet her cravings!
A little peak of the inside of the favor bags. I ordered the “Swee-Tea” ceramic tea bag caddies from Bellisimo Favors, the tea bags are Mighty Leaf and the swizzle sticks to sweeten the tea are also from Old Fashioned Candies.
I’ve said it before…I can’t help but love to eat and gather with friends and family in a beautiful atmosphere…all the little details make special occasions even more exceptional! One little idea can spin off to a whole theme!
Have a great weekend everyone! See you here on Monday!
