A Summer Weekend Recap

July 16, 2012

Hi! How was your weekend? I am amazed at how much Jose and I need to accomplish over the weekend. I’m still pretty much stuck at home during the week so when Saturday arrives it’s, “ready, set, GO!” around here! I am very lucky to be able to stay at home with my kids and recuperate on Mondays from the exhausting but fun weekends.

On Saturday we went to a very good friend’s 3rd birthday pool party. The boys had an amazing time! What a great idea for a summer birthday. My friend Diana looked so relaxed as she hosted and every child had so much fun. No need for entertainers or a mess at home! The weather was also perfect: warm enough to swim but overcast skies. No sunburns here.

Quick snack between laps!

I also finally finished book one of the Fifty Shades Trilogy. Can we all say, WOWSERS? I can’t even describe or review the book for you all right now. I’m still processing it. Let me just say this without spoiling anything: I loved envisioning Grey’s office, highrise apartment, the cars, the clothes, the swag! Imagining Grey himself was the best for me (sorry honey) and the thought that William Levy might play him in the movie just added um…some uh…excitement to the book. Let’s leave it at that. BUT one more thing, I am starting book two tonight. Sigh.

This weekend I also continued working on my exercise goals. Jackie came here to kick my butt on Thursday and I went for a nice walk on Friday with the three boys.  I was so sore from the previous day! On Saturday I repeated some of the sets Jackie taught me and I even played a little soccer with Diego. I am using the My Fitness Pal app on my iPhone to keep track of calories, exercise, and I love it! It’s my new toy. I go around scanning bar codes of things I don’t even eat because it’s a lot of fun! My iPhone still amazes me. I know, I know…the things that make me happy. Sigh again.

45 minute walk like this = burned 160 calories. THAT’S IT???

Saturday was also the day I finished reviewing a thousand pictures (seriously) of my parent’s recent trip to Europe. They traveled to England, France, Switzerland and Italy last month. Envious I am, but like a good daughter I narrowed it down to 485 pictures for them. My next project: photo book!  It’s so important to organize and file away the most important memories. I can’t wait to hand it to them.

Yesterday, we managed to get the three boys out of the house by 10:30 in the morning and we traveled 30 minutes to Field Station: Dinosaurs! The outdoor attraction was really neat. We walked a little less than a mile, Diego equipped with his map, book and dino knowledge, pointed out more than fifteen robotic and lifelike dinosaurs. He loved it! The heat made the rest of us feel like we were real paleontologists, digging for fossils in the scorching sun. We will definitely go back on a cooler day and stick around for the various activities we know the boys would enjoy.

A little stressful when a T-Rex is right behind you!

After the run through at the Field Station, we drove back to town, managed to have brunch at a local restaurant, and even went shopping for summer sales! All three boys cooperated. I was holding my breath until I had a mimosa…then it was all good. At the end of it all, I looked at Jose while he drove and said, “I can’t believe we had such a smooth weekend”. He replied, “they love a little change too.” Triple sigh.

Happy Monday everyone! Work hard to play hard! Would love to hear what your summer weekends are like too! Please comment below!

Wow! Talk about a busy weekend. Mine was pretty similar. Friday night my daughters invited two of my nieces over for sleepover and we had a fun girls night in (plus Franco). We went out for a late night snack a RedMango. Its a self serve frozen yogurt place that stays open til 11pm. We then watched one of my favorite family movies called “Flipped”. I made breakfast for 5 kids in the morning (thank goodness they slept in til about 10am) their mother picked them up at about noon and it was just in time before our old neighbors whom now live in Arizona arrived for a visit. Our old neighbors also have two daughters so our daughters wanted to catch up with them as well so we all went swimming at our family health club Lifetime. My cousin Nancy met us at the pool with her kids and after 2 hours of swimming we went to my cousins house and all together cooked up a delicious late lunch. We had steelhead fish and steak on the grill with some roasted potatoes, home grown vegetable salad (from my cousins garden), roasted beats also on the grill and some guacamole. This lunch was delicious, healthy and we had great company. I wanted to keep eating, but I had to save room for dinner as Frank and I had dinner plans at Rick Bayless’ Frontera Grill that night with some good friends. Dinner was also delicious and it was nice to go out once the kids were in bed with Grandma for some delicious oysters, adult conversation, a refreshing summer martini, and good company. Sunday we had my niece Arlene’s birthday party. It was a pool party so we all got to swim again. It was nice to spend quality time with the family (16 nieces and nephews, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers). Yes, we have family birthday parties almost every weekend. My children were exhausted from swimming so we came home and relaxed while watching another good movie called “First Point” it is a documentary on aspiring professional ballet daners.

Busy weekends are very typical in my house with my three kids and a BIG family.

Too funny Caro!!! I pretty much did what Caro did, from swimming at lifetime to birthday party on Sunday. Thought mine was a bit more stressful, my little Frankie screams like a maniac most of the day everyday sometimes for no reason, did not want to get I the pool, he run and fell. 🙁 . Lunch at my house was delicious and enjoyful as Caro said. Then frontera grill mmm mmm So good. Caro forgot that after than Frank her husband drove us around to four bars and nightclubs all night. Came home at 330am to meet my husband at home, all alone…. Went to bed When it was light out, I don’t remember what we did :). But it was nice not to be woken up by a crying baby the next morning. Sunday birthday party and a bike with kids around he neiborhood.
